Aim and objective

This course is for those who wish to develop their screen-writing skills for film and TV-drama, learn more about the film industry and eventually become a screen-writer working in Sweden and abroad.

After a year with us you have a better chance of becoming one of tomorrow’s prize-winning screenwriters.

Method and content

The course consists of two terms starting the 19th August and ending the 4th September, and starts and finishes in conjunction with in the Carl International Film Festival (CIFF) and Carl Film Forum, followed by a workshop and finals leading up to the 4th September.

During the course you will be given the opportunity to develop your screen-writing skills under supervision. 25% of the course comprises inspiration periods in the form of practical writing in various environments and situations.

The course is integrated with Litorina’s Baltic profile and other activities that traditionally form a part of any education at a Scandinavian  ”folk high school.”.

Instruction will be in English.

On completion of the course you should have knowledge of the film industry, how it works and the demands it makes, and be able to write scripts for film and TV drama.

Important elements in the course:

The theoretical foundations for writing scripts within film and TV drama and practical screen-writing under supervision. Part of the training will take the form of workshops held in the beautiful archipelago along the coast of Blekinge and led by prominent figures from the international film industry.

Students will also take part in trade meetings such as Carl International Film Festival (CIFF) and one other film festival in the Baltic region.  At CIFF you will take part in the festival’s forum, which is dedicated to those working in the industry, and is a meeting point for Swedish and international film-makers.

Research in the form of actively observing professionals in action will provide inspiration and help you create better descriptions of characters and situations.

Previous qualifications and the recruiting process

It is essential that you can speak and write well in English.

To qualify for the course you must have an education at least equivalent to Swedish high-school.

The course is open to people from any country in the world.

Selection will take place in the form of interviews and submission of examples of your work that are related to screen-writing. When you have sent us your application digitally, including these examples and a personal letter describing your ambitions, you may be asked for an interview, which can be via internet video.

Semesters and Financing

Course period:

2 semesters full-time: 19 August 2019 – 5 June 2020, and 17 August – 4 September 2020.

Fee:

SEK 7500. per term. This includes the admission fee for CIFF 2019 and 2020, writing software, insurance, inspirational excursions and various activities at the school. The fee must be paid when you receive the admission letter.
